Two Eighth-Inning Runs Lead Dickinson Past Baseball, 6-4

CARLISLE, Pa. - After the McDaniel College baseball team tied the game in the seventh, Dickinson scored two runs in the eighth to escape with a 6-4 victory Sunday at MacPhail Field.

The Green Terror (13-10, 4-2 CC) rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the fifth before the Red Devils scored the game-winning run on a walk with the bases loaded as part of a two-run bottom of the eighth.

Graduate student Joey Hubinger totaled three hits to lead the visitors, going 3-for-4 with a walk while freshman Ethan Haddock was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Haddock drove in the game's first run with a single to left center in the top of the third to score senior Luke Kelly before Dickinson (16-7, 4-2 CC) took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Matt Torres.

The Red Devils doubled their lead with a two-run homer to left by Chase Weller in the fifth.

Trailing by three, McDaniel began its comeback with a sacrifice fly by senior Tyler Yohn in the sixth that scored Hubinger. Haddock had an RBI-double in the seventh to score junior Shane Daly before another sacrifice fly, this time by sophomore Ben Davis, scored Haddock to tie the game at 4-4.

However, Dickinson would answer in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with one out before Josh Markley drew a walk to score Luke Gartland for what proved to be the game-winning run.

The Red Devils added their final run on a sacrifice fly before the Green Terror stranded the tying runs in scoring position in the top of the ninth.

McDaniel used five pitchers in the contest with freshman Jake Young getting the start. The staff surrendered just nine hits, but allowed nine walks and hit three batters. Junior Ryan Kelly suffered his first loss, allowing the final two runs over 2.1 innings.

The Green Terror begin a two-game series with Gettysburg on Tuesday at Preston Field. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
