Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 6 Swarthmore on Senior Day

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior AJ Johnson finished with a hat-trick to lead the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team in a 16-8 loss to No. 6 Swarthmore on Senior Day at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (8-8, 0-7 CC) trailed 5-0 before scoring five of the next seven goals to pull within two following Johnson's second goal of the game with 14:18 remaining in the third quarter.

However, the Garnet (13-1, 7-0 CC) answered with four consecutive goals to take an 11-5 lead with 4:14 left in the third.

After Johnson netted his third goal of the game with less than three minutes to play in the third, Michael Hardiman scored his third for the visitors with just three seconds remaining in the third to push the lead back to six.

Swarthmore scored nine of the game's final 12 goals, including four of six in the fourth quarter to remain unbeaten in conference play with one game remaining.

Johnson totaled his fourth hat-trick of the season and second in as many games as he had five on Wednesday at Shenandoah. He has scored at least one goal in 13 out of 16 games this season.

Junior Jason Fritz finished with five points on two goals and three assists and has had 10 assists over the last two games after a career-high seven at Shenandoah.

Senior Zack Micklos netted his fifth goal of the season on Senior Day, a diving shot across the front of the crease with 12:36 left in the fourth before freshman Aidan Skelly followed with a similar tally just 1:13 later to pull the Green Terror within five, 13-8.

Graduate student Nate Capriglione had four ground balls and one caused turnover while graduate student Brighton Lorber finished with 15 saves.

McDaniel wraps up the regular season next Friday, April 26 at Franklin & Marshall. Opening face-off is set for 6 p.m.
