Joey Hubinger totaled five hits and four RBIs while senior
Tyler Yohn had four hits and five RBIs as the McDaniel College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Muhlenberg Saturday.
The Green Terror (11-8, 2-0 CC) extended their win streak to four and have won four of their last five against the Mules at Cedarcreek Field.
Hubinger went 5-for-8 with a double, home run and four RBIs while Yohn was 4-for-10 with a home run and five RBIs. Sophomore
Ben Davis also had four hits, including two doubles and a home run while driving in three runs.
Meanwhile, freshman
Ethan Haddock had one hit in both games to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. He has had at least one hit in every he has played to start his college career.
McDaniel totaled 20 runs on 27 hits with 11 extra-base hits, including seven doubles and four home runs.
McDaniel 9, Muhlenberg 3
The Green Terror scored first on an RBI-double by Davis in the top of the first before the Mules took the lead with a solo home run in the second and an RBI-single in the third.
Muhlenberg maintained its one-run lead until freshman
Shea McKenna tied the game with an RBI-single to right center in the sixth, scoring Davis.
McDaniel blew the game open with a seven-run eighth, highlighted by back-to-back, lead off home runs by Hubinger and Davis. Yohn increased the lead to four with a two-run single before senior
Jake Smith followed with an RBI-single to make it 7-2. An RBI-single by Daly and sacrifice fly by Haddock pushed the advantage to 9-2.
Ryan Friesen led off the bottom of the ninth with his second solo home run of the game for the Mules to provide the final margin.
Hubinger finished 2-for-3 with two walks and one RBI while Yohn was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Davis went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and two RBI.
Sophomore
James Cosgrove picked up his second win of the season in relief, allowing just one earned run and six hits over 3.1 innings while striking out two.
McDaniel 11, Muhlenberg 4
The Mules (6-13, 0-2 CC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first before the Green Terror responded with eight unanswered runs to take a six-run lead in the top of the fifth.
The visitors scored three runs on three RBI-singles in the third before adding an RBI-single in the fourth to lead 4-2. McDaniel extended its lead to six with four runs in the fifth, three of which were unearned. Daly started the scoring with an RBI-double to left center before Smith scored on an error and Hubinger followed with a two-run double to right.
After Muhlenberg got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, McKenna hit a solo home run in the sixth before scoring on a two-run shot by Yohn in the eighth as the Green Terror scored at least 10 runs for the seventh time this season.
Hubinger went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs while Youhn wasa 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Daly also had three hits, going 3-for-6, and now has 31 hits this season, four behind Haddock's team-leading 35.
Graduate student
Ryan Martino improved to 3-0 this season, allowing just one run on five hits over 4.0 innings and striking out two.
McDaniel hosts Dickinson on Tuesday at Preston Field. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
