Baseball Wins Fifth-Straight, Remains Unbeaten in Conference

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College baseball team scored five unanswered runs to break a 5-5 tie en route to its fifth-straight win with a five-run victory over Dickinson Friday at Preston Field, 11-6.

The Green Terror (12-8, 3-0 CC) are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in Centennial Conference play after knocking off the previously unbeaten Red Devils.

During its five-game win streak, McDaniel has outscored its opponents, 48-24.

Sophomore Ben Davis led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs while freshman Shea McKenna also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Meanwhile, senior Tyler Yohn was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Green Terror jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a three-run double from freshman Patrick Kelly.

Dickinson (14-6, 2-1 CC) tied the game with five runs of their own in the top of the third, scoring the final three on a three-run double by Matt Torres.

McDaniel regained the lead with five unanswered runs, including two in the fifth and three in the sixth. Yohn and senior Jake Smith both had RBI hits in the fifth before the team plated three more in the sixth.

Davis scored junior Shane Daly with his third hit of the day in the sixth before graduate student Joey Hubinger scored on a stolen base by Davis. Davis then scored on a sacrifice fly by McKenna.

Each team added one more on RBI-singles in the top of the seventh and bottom of the eighth.

The Green Terror used seven pitchers in the contest with junior Brady Bailey making his second start of the season. He left the game with a 5-0 lead after two as he faced just one batter over the minimum. Junior Ryan Kelly picked up his first win of the season, totaling 2.0 innings without allowing a base runner and striking out one.

Five of the six runs allowed by the pitching staff were unearned.

McDaniel hosts a Centennial Conference doubleheader versus Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. First pitch is at noon.
