First Half Leads No. 11 Gettysburg Past Men's Lacrosse

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Gettysburg scored 14 first-half goals as the 11th-ranked Bullets posted a 14-5 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Wednesday on Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Green Terror (7-3, 0-2 CC) outscored Gettysburg 5-0 in the second and were led by three goals and one assist from junior Jason Fritz.

The Bullets scored six first-quarter goals, three of which came from Charlie Johnson. Johnson added a fourth tally in the second quarter as Gettysburg scored eight goals to take a 14-0 lead into halftime. Johnson also had two second-quarter assists while Quinton Mather had two goals and one assist.

The Bullets out-shot McDaniel 30-4 in the first half while holding a 19-9 edge in ground balls and forcing 12 turnovers.

Led by nine saves from graduate student Brighton Lorber, the Green Terror held Gettysburg scoreless over the final 30 minutes, totaling 19 shots, including 11 on goal.

Senior AJ Johnson opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half off an assist from Fritz before netted his first with 6:11 remaining in the third.

Fritz had a hand in four of McDaniel's five second-half goals, adding his second goal with 4:44 left in the fourth and his third with 47 seconds to play. In between, senior Nick Wingo scored a man-up tally off a feed from senior Zach Micklos.

Lorber finished with 14 saves while junior Jake Arcilesi had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Tyler McDaniel won eight face-offs and picked up five ground balls.

The Green Terror host a Centennial Conference contest versus Ursinus on Saturday at Gill Stadium. Face-off is at 3 p.m. following the women's game against the Bears.
