WESTMINSTER, Md. - Washington College scored the game's first 11 goals en route to a 16-9 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Saturday at Gill Stadium in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.
Freshman
Carter Youtz continued his scoring streak, for the Green Terror (7-2, 0-1 CC)Â netting his fourth consecutive hat-trick with four goals. He has totaled 18 of his 25 goals this season over the last four games and is now tied for the team lead in goals with junior
Jason Fritz.
Fritz also finished with four points, posting two goals and two assists.
The Shoremen (3-5, 1-0 CC) out-shot McDaniel 31-9 in the first half as they led 12-1 at halftime, scoring eight goals in the second quarter. The visitors also won 12 out of 15 face-offs in the first 30 minutes and held a 19-7 advantage in ground balls.
Connor Garrison scored all five of his goals in the first half while adding one assist. Three of his goals were assisted by Grant Matthews who totaled six first-half assists. The duo combined for 12 points, all of which came in the first half.
The Green Terror outscored the visitors 8-4 in the second half behind four goals from Youtz and one goal and two assists from Fritz. Youtz scored three of the team's four fourth-quarter tallies.
Freshman
Aiden Skelly added two second-half goals while senior
AJ Johnson also had two points with one goal and one assist.
Sophomore
Finn Forcucci totaled two ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead the defense while sophomore
Jack Sabo added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Graduate student
Brighton Lorber made nine saves and now has exactly 700 in his career, just the third Green Terror in school history to total 700.
McDaniel travels to No. 10 Gettysburg on Wednesday. Face-off is at 3:30 p.m.
