FREDERICK, Md. - The McDaniel College men's lacrosse team outscored Hood 10-3 over the final three quarters to overcome three-goal, first-quarter deficit en route to an 11-7 victory Wednesday at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Green Terror (8-1) improved to 5-0 on the road this season and won the first meeting between the two in-state rivals since 2008.
Junior
Jason Fritz led the team with three goals and two assists while freshman
Carter Youtz netted his third consecutive hat-trick with three goals. Youtz has scored 14 goals in the team's last three games.
Senior
AJ Johnson got things started with the game's first goal just 46 seconds into the game off an assist from Fritz. However, that would be the only goal of the quarter for the visitors as the Blazers scored four unanswered to take a 4-1 lead after one.
Freshman
Cash Stanton stopped the drought with the first of back-to-back goals with 11:24 remaining in the second quarter. He also scored with 1:00 left as McDaniel trailed by one at the half, 4-3.
Hood (5-4) scored to start the second half before two goals from Youtz tied the game at 5-5 entering the fourth quarter.
After just 10 combined goals through the first three quarters, the Green Terror outscored the Blazers 6-2 over the final 15 minutes with Fritz totaling three goals and one assist.
Graduate student
Brighton Lorber finished with 11 saves to lead the defense and now has 691 for his career as he looks to become just the third player in program history to reach 700. Chuck Nolan had 774 from 1980-83 and Bill Brewster made 707 from 1984-87.
McDaniel opens Centennial Conference play on Saturday at Gill Stadium against Washington College. Opening face-off is set for noon.
