Haddock Extends Hit Streak, Baseball Battles No. 4 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - Freshman Ethan Haddock extended his hitting streak to 11 games as the McDaniel College baseball team battled No. 4 Salisbury before falling 5-1 Wednesday at Williams Stadium.

The Green Terror (7-8) used eight pitchers, limiting the Sea Gulls to just five runs on seven hits with only three of the runs being earned.

Haddock went 2-for-5 and has had at least one hit in all 11 games to begin his career. He is currently hitting .565 this season with a team-high 26 hits and has nine multi-hit games.

After a scoreless first inning, McDaniel struck first in the top of the second. Sophomore Ben Davis led off the inning with a single up the middle before senior Tyler Yohn drew a walk and sophomore Todd Calhoun singled to load the bases with two outs. Sophomore Robert Weer scored Davis with an RBI-single to left for the team's only run.

Salisbury (14-3) answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning, tying the game on a fielding error.

With the score tied at 1-1, the Sea Gulls added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by Andrew Kell. Adam Tommer began the scoring when he gave the home team the lead for good with an RBI-triple.

Salisbury added another unearned run in the fifth to increase the lead to 5-1.

With two outs in the seventh, the Green Terror threatened a comeback when junior Shane Daly singled to center and moved into scoring position on a single by Haddock. However, Garrett Beaver came on in relief and retired the first batter he faced with a fly out in foul territory to end the inning.

Daly also went 2-for-5 while Davis was 2-for-3.

Of the eight McDaniel pitchers, freshman Ryan Von Stein was one of the most effective, retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth, including one by strikeout.

The Green Terror return home to face Stockton on Friday in a single, nine-inning contest at 3:30 p.m.
