Home Runs by Yohn, Davis Highlight 9-7 Win Over Stockton

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Third inning home runs by senior Tyler Yohn and sophomore Ben Davis helped lead the McDaniel College baseball team to a 9-7 win over Stockton Friday at Preston Field.

The Green Terror (8-8) snapped a three-game skid and posted their fourth win in five meetings against the Ospreys.

Yohn and Davis each went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Freshman Ethan Haddock had three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

Davis opened the scoring in the first with a single to left to score graduate student Joey Hubinger before Stockton tied the game with a run in the top of the second.

Freshman Patrick Kelly put McDaniel back in front with an RBI-single to score Yohn in the bottom of the second before Haddock extended his hit streak with a single to score senior Jake Smith. Kelly would also score as a result of a fielding error on the play to push the lead to three, 4-1.

The Green Terror would add three more runs in the third when Davis led off with a solo home run to left and Yohn hit a two-run shot to left center, scoring freshman Shea McKenna who reached on a single.

McDaniel led 7-1 after three, but the Ospreys (9-8) scored three runs in the top of the fourth to cut its deficit to three.

However, McKenna had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Haddock added his second RBI-single in the fifth as the Green Terror stretched their advantage to five, 9-4.

Stockton added a two-run homer in the seventh and an RBI-single in the eight to pull within two, but that would be as close as the visitors would get. Junior Conor Henderson came on the ninth, retiring three of the four batters he faced, including two by strikeout, to earn his second save of the season.

Freshman Ryan Buecker made his third start of the season, allowing just hit and one unearned run over 3.0 innings before graduate student Ryan Martino picked up his second win of the year in 4.0 innings of relief.

McDaniel will have the weekend off before continuing its three-game home stand on Monday against Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
