WESTMINSTER, Md. - Randolph-Macon scored two goals in the final eight minutes to hold off a late rally by the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team en route to an 11-8 victory Wednesday at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (5-1) fell for the first time this season, losing to a team who entered the game receiving votes in Monday's USILA Division III Poll.
Freshman
Carter Youtz scored a career-high four goals while junior
Jason Fritz added a goal and four assists.
In a battle of two undefeated teams, a statistically even match-up came down to turnovers as McDaniel had 19 compared to just 13 for the Yellow Jackets.
After Randolph-Macon (6-0) took its largest lead of the game, 9-6, back-to-back goals by Youtz and senior
Eric Manfredonia pulled the Green Terror within one, 9-8.
However, McDaniel had turnovers on three of its final four possessions while the Yellow Jackets added two goals by Avery Tankersley to provide the final margin.
Led by a goal and two assists from Fritz, the Green Terror outscored the visitors 4-1 in the opening quarter before Randolph-Macon scored the next five consecutive, including four in the second, to take a 6-4 advantage to start the fourth.
Graduate student
Brighton Lorber finished with double digit saves for the third time in six games this season as he made 10. He now has 671 for his career as he looks to become just the third player in program history with at least 700.
Sophomore
Nate Yelle picked up his first points of the season with two assists.
McDaniel concludes its three game home stand on Saturday when it hosts Chatham at 2 p.m.
