Davis Powers McDaniel Baseball to Sweep Over Dean

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Sophomore Ben Davis totaled four hits and eight RBIs as the McDaniel College baseball team swept a doubleheader versus Dean Tuesday evening at the Ripken Experience.

The Green Terror (6-4) scored 37 runs on 37 hits as they extended their win streak to four. During its four game win streak, the team has outscored its opponents, 69-15. They have totaled 67 hits, including 22 for extra bases, with a .432 batting average.

Davis went 4-for-10 with a two-run home run and eight RBIs against the Bulldogs while freshman Ethan Haddock was 6-for-7 with two RBIs and four runs, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

A total of 12 players had at least one hit with six with seven registering one for extra bases. Led by Davis, six players started both games and had at least four hits.

McDaniel 17, Dean 1

After the Bulldogs scored their only run on an RBI-single with two outs in the top of the first, the Green Terror scored 17 unanswered runs, including eight in the bottom of the first. They scored two runs on balks, one on an RBI-ground out and one on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.

McDaniel sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on seven hits, including an RBI-double by freshman Shea McKenna.

The Green Terror added four more runs in the third on two-run singles by Davis and McKenna before scoring a run on a wild pitch in the fourth and adding four more runs in the sixth, including an RBI-single by Haddock for his fifth hit of the game.

Haddock went 5-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored while McKenna was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Davis also had three RBIs

Meanwhile, four pitchers combined to allow just one earned run, scattering 11 hits over seven innings and striking out seven. Freshman Ryan Buecker made his first career start, limiting the Bulldogs to just one run on five hits over 3.0 innings before junior Brady Bailey picked up his first win as a Green Terror, pitching two scoreless innings in relief and striking out four.

Freshman Coen Harvey made his first career appearance, pitching a scoreless sixth.

McDaniel 20, Dean 3

Game two was much of the same as the Green Terror scored early, leading 7-0 after three and erupting for six runs in the fourth and seven in the seventh.

Davis led the way, going 3-for-6 with five RBI and his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to right in the fourth. He drove in four runs in the first four innings with his two-run home run jump starting the six-run fourth. Sophomore Robert Weer also added an RBI-double as McDaniel led 13-0.

Dean got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Green Terror plated seven more in the seventh, highlighted by RBI-doubles by sophomore Kyle Carl and junior Shane Daly as McDaniel reached the 20-run plateau for the second time this season.

Daly finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored while graduate student Joey Hubinger and senior Tyler Yohn also had three hits apiece.

Junior Matt Van Brunt made his first start as a Green Terror, pitching a scoreless first while striking out two. Freshman Nate Shattuck earned the win in his first career appearance, allowing just one hit while striking out three before freshman Kevin Hyde also struck out three, retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth.

McDaniel concludes its six-game South Carolina road trip against Susquehanna on Wednesday. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
