Andre Allen and freshman
Gannon Brooks finished fourth to lead the McDaniel College men's wrestling team Sunday at the Mideast Futures Tournament hosted by The College of New Jersey.
Allen finished fourth at 149 pounds while Brooks was fourth at 174 pounds. Both wrestlers posted three wins in five matches.
In his first action since Jan. 20, Allen began the day with back-to-back tech falls, 16-1 and 18-3, his first two of the season, before posting a 7-2 decision over Jason Giordano of TCNJ. He fell to Carmen Cortese of Stevens in the semifinals, 15-7, and 8-0 to Jared Lee of RIT in the third-place match.
Brooks also started the day with three consecutive wins in his first action since Jan. 24, posting back-to-back falls against Centennial Conference competition, Graham Chandler of Gettysburg and Collin Boldt of Muhlenberg. He advanced to the semifinals on a medical forfeit, falling to Chris Piazza of Stevens by fall. He then was bested by Wilkes' Melquan Warren by tech fall in the third-place match.
Brooks has eight wins this season, seven of which have come by fall.
In his first action since Nov. 19, sophomore
Avery Cummings also posted a 3-2 record at 174 pounds with all three wins coming by fall. He started with back-to-back pins before falling to AJ Cerulli of Ursinus in the quarterfinals. He recorded a first-period fall over Cortland's Jackson Campbell in the consolation bracket, but was edged 11-9 by Wilkes' Lucas Miller in the consolation semifinals.
Sophomore
Kenneth Moore also picked up a win for the Green Terror on Sunday, recording his third fall of the season at 157 pounds against Gabe Heaney of Ursinus in 4:03.
McDaniel returns to action next Friday, March 1 when it heads to the University of Rochester for the NCAA Mideast Regional.
