Kearney Posts Double Double in 76-69 Overtime Win Over Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Sophomore David Kearney totaled his first career 20-point game and fourth double double as the McDaniel College men's basketball team posted a 76-69 overtime win over Muhlenberg Saturday at Memorial Hall.

The Green Terror (10-13, 5-11 CC) improved to 2-1 in overtime games this season with their third win in the last four games.

It was also win No. 184 for head coach Kevin Curley in 16 seasons at McDaniel, leaving him one shy of tying Alex Ober '63 for the most wins in program history. Ober was inducted into the college's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

Kearney totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-for-11 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. He scored 15 points in the second half as McDaniel rallied from an eight-point deficit with 9:38 remaining.

The Green Terror are 3-1 this season when Kearney posts a double double.

Trailing 55-47 following a three-pointer by Liam Gorman, McDaniel would rally to within one, 59-58, with 5:42 left. The visitors would tie the game at 60-60 on a layup by sophomore Jonas Sujeta before taking its first lead since the 7:24 mark of the first half on a layup by Kearney just 34 seconds later.

The Mules (8-15, 7-9 CC) tied the game at 62-62 on a jumper by Jayson Williams-Johnson with 31 seconds to play before an attempt by the Green Terror at the buzzer was off the mark.

McDaniel scored the first five points of overtime on a three-pointer by graduate student Carter Truby and a basket by Hall before two free throws by senior Chuck Contee gave the team its largest lead, 71-64 with 56 seconds remaining.

The Green Terror scored their final seven points from the free throw line, going 7-for-8 with Contee making all six of his attempts.

Contee finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Sujeta had 13 points, eight rebounds, four rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore Christian Taylor had 14 points and four rebounds.

McDaniel plays its final road game of the season on Wednesday when the team heads to Gettysburg for an 8 p.m. tip-off with the Bullets.
