READING, Pa. - Alvernia used a fourth-quarter comeback to post a 57-48 victory over the McDaniel College women's basketball team Wednesday.
The Green Terror (8-3) suffered their first loss in their last four games and fell in the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 1, 2001.
Sophomore
Raegan Lenz posted her second career double double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds while adding three assists, three steals and three blocks. Junior
Elaina Beckett had a team-high 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. Junior
Jordan McLean added a season-high eight points.
The Wolves (5-4) outscored McDaniel 26-9 in the final quarter, totaled 13 points off turnovers and going 12-of-16 from the free throw line.
Alvernia began its comeback midway through the third quarter. With the Green Terror holding its largest lead of the game, 36-18 with 4:36 remaining, the Wolves finished the quarter on a 13-3 run. The opened the fourth with a 12-4 run to tie the game at 43-43.
With the game tied at 45-45, Alvernia took its first lead since the 9:01 mark of the first quarter on a three-pointer by Aaliyah Ferrer with 2:16 to play. That would be the last field goal for the Wolves who finished the game 9-of-12 from the free throw line over the final 1:24.
McDaniel will now break for the holiday before returning to action on Thursday, Jan. 2 with a home contest against Mount Aloysius beginning at 5 p.m.
