Teya McConnaha posted her fifth career double double to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to an 84-70 victory over Geneva in the championship game of the Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.
The Green Terror (2-0) secured their second consecutive Rebecca Martin Tip-Off Tournament title after defeating Chatham a year ago.
McConnaha was named to the All-Tournament Team along with junior
Elaina Beckett who was named Most Outstanding Player for the second year in-a-row after posting back-to-back 20 point games. Beckett finished with 21 points for the second-straight night.
Sophomore
Raegan Lenz posted her first career double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while tying a career-high with five assists. She was 8-of-9 from the floor and added two blocks. Freshman
Lauren Cavoli also dished out five assists to go along with nine points.
McDaniel shot 50-percent from the floor, scored 16 fast-break points and out-rebounded the Golden Tornadoes, 47-34.
The Green Terror came out firing in the first quarter, making 8-of-14 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws to take a 23-14 lead.
A three-pointer from McConnaha grew the lead to 34-17 with 5:22 in the second, capping a 17-3 run for the hosts. The two teams traded baskets by the end of the half with McDaniel taking a 47-27 lead into the break.
The Golden Tornadoes (1-1) battled back into the contest with a 26-point third quarter, scored 10 points at the free throw line where they went 10-for-13 in the quarter.
Geneva pulled within nine with 6:15 to play in the fourth, but two-straight three-pointers from McConnaha and sophomore
Caroline Barbalato put the game out of reach.
McDaniel begins a five-game road trip on Tuesday when its makes the short trip to York (PA) for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the Spartans.
