HAVERFORD, Pa. – The McDaniel College volleyball team lost in straight sets at conference rival Haverford Saturday afternoon in its final road match of the 2024 season.
The Green Terror (10-11, 0-8) had three players finish with five or more kills, led by junior
Kailey Young with seven. Senior
Allyson Burgee collected six kills on a team-best .364 hitting percentage and freshman
Stephanie Buttons contributed with five. Senior
Katherine Taveras and freshman
Cassy Poteet combined for 20 of the team's 21 assists on the day. Junior
Samatha Fadel led the team defensively with 14 digs.
McDaniel opened the first set with a 5-3 lead before surrendering a 5-0 run to the Fords (11-12, 4-4). The Green Terror stayed within five midway through the set but another 5-0 run gave the Fords an eight-point cushion. Haverford scored the final three points of the set to win the opener, 25-14.
Haverford controlled the second set thanks to an 8-2 run to start the contest. The Fords grew the lead to as much as 18 and cruised to a 25-7 victory.
McDaniel started strong in the third set with an early 4-2 advantage. Haverford turned the contest around with an 8-1 run. The Fords led by four when the Green Terror scored three straight to cut the deficit to one. The two teams traded points before Haverford closed strong, fending off a late challenge to win the set 25-19 and close out the match in three.
McDaniel concludes the season with a two-match homestand beginning with conference foe Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday at 7 pm from the Gill Center.
