McDaniel Posts Thrilling Double OT Win in NCAA First Round

NEWARK, N.J. - Senior Madyson Hill scored with 55 seconds left in the second overtime to lift the McDaniel College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Saturday.

The Green Terror (12-4-3) advance to the second round for the second year in-a-row and will face host NYU on Sunday.

Hill netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from junior Abby Witzel in the 110th minute to give McDaniel its 10th shutout in 19 games this season. Hill scored on the team's 13th shot of the game and seventh on goal.

The goal was also the third game-winner of the season for Hill who has set career highs in goals (6) and points (14).

The Green Terror defense stood tall against 19 shots, holding the Cowgirls (17-2-2) to just three on goal while handing them just their second loss in 21 games. The 19 shots were the second-most faced by the team this season.

Senior Lauren Hoolahan made four saves, including two in the second overtime to keep the game scoreless. The trio of sophomore Alexis Keller-Posen, sophomore Peyton Viggiano and senior Olivia Moskunas played all 109:05 on defense, joining senior Jessica Weinoldt and freshman Grace Duffey as the only players to play every second.

The win against the 26-time American Southwest Conference champions came in the first-ever meeting between the two. As a result, McDaniel advances to the NCAA second round for the third time in the last four seasons and fourth time in six NCAA appearances.

The Green Terror take on host and 18th-ranked NYU on Sunday at 1 p.m. at New Jersey Institute of Technology's Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
