NEWARK, N.J. - NYU scored a goal in each half as the 18th-ranked Violets posted a 2-0 victory over the McDaniel College women's soccer team on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
The Green Terror (12-5-3) finish their season in the NCAA second round for the second year in-a-row, matching their win total with 12.
Over the last two seasons, the team went unbeaten in 32 of 41 games, posting 24-9-8 record with all 24 wins coming by shutout.
NYU (12-2-6), playing on its home field where it has a record of 6-1-1 this season, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 17th minute. Rena Kalargiros was tripped inside of the box and Riley Mullady scored on a shot into the lower right corner to put the hosts up 1-0.
The Violets held a 9-0 edge in shots in the first half and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks as senior
Lauren Hoolahan totaled four of her career-high 10 saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Less than eight minutes into the second half, Izze Ching added an insurance tally for NYU off a pass from Kelli Keady.
McDaniel had three shots in the second half, but could not send one on goal, while Violets had 12, six of which were turned away by Hoolahan in her final game as a Green Terror.
The Violets advance to the third round where they will face No. 18Â Johns Hopkins next Saturday, Nov. 23 at a site to be determined.
