Slow Start Hampers McDaniel in 60-54 Loss at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata scored 15 of the game's first 17 points and never trailed en route to a 60-54 victory over the McDaniel College women's basketball team Saturday at Alumnae Hall.

The Green Terror (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season, shooting just 27.4 percent from the floor and totaling 14 turnovers which led to 19 points for the Mighty Macs.

Sophomore Teya McConnaha had 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for McDaniel while junior Elaina Beckett totaled her first double double of the season and 13th of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Raegan Lenz had 11 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks, the fourth-most in a game in program history and most since Ashley Lyles had seven at Franklin & Marshall on Jan. 16, 2010.

As a team, the Green Terror totaled 14 blocks, the second-most in program history. They had 17 against Haverford on Jan. 18, 1997.

McDaniel struggled to find their rhythm early on, going 2-of-11 from the field in the opening quarter as it trailed 18-5 after the first 10 minutes. Immaculata (3-1) scored 14 of its 18 first-quarter points off eight Green Terror turnovers.

Led by eight points from McConnaha, McDaniel shot 45.5 percent in the second, but the Mighty Macs went 7-of-13 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from three-point range as the maintained their 13-point lead at halftime, 36-23.

Beckett and Lenz combined for 10 of the team's 14 points as the Green Terror cut their deficit to six midway through the third quarter, but a 9-1 run but Immaculata pushed its lead back to 14.

McDaniel outscored the hosts 17-11 in the fourth and pulled within seven with 2:54 remaining, but the Mighty Macs made 3-of-4 free throw attempts in the final 41 seconds to hold the visitors at bay.

The Green Terror return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Gators.
