WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Matt Bowes scored his first goal of the season while junior
Noah Rodriguez scored his first collegiate goal as the McDaniel College men's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Hood Tuesday at the Soccer Complex.
The Green Terror (6-4-1) posted their seventh shutout in 11 games while picking up their third win in four home games this season.
Bowes scored his fourth career goal just six minutes into the game when he scored off a lob into the box from freshman
Jack Guerrera. It was the third career game-winner for Bowes and the team-leading third assist of the season for Guerrera.
Bowes is the sixth different player to record a game-winning goal for McDaniel this season, one for each of the team's six victories.
Just over one minute later, sophomore
Parks Tolton scored his team-leading third goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick following a yellow card on the Blazers' Nick Citro. It was the first PK goal of the season for the Green Terror who are now 1-for-2 this season.
Rodriguez added the third goal for McDaniel off their third corner kick in the 24th minute when he curved the ball into the box and it deflected off a Hood defender for his first goal in his 44th career game.
The Green Terror led 3-0 at the half after out-shooting the Blazers 11-7 in the opening 45 minutes. McDaniel's three goals were the most in a half for the team since Oct. 5, 2022 when they had three in each half of a 6-0 win over Christendom at home.
The second half was back-and-forth with each team registering seven shots and McDaniel holding a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Tate Roth totaled three of his five saves in the second 45 minutes en route to recording his seventh shutout in 10 starts this season. His five saves were one shy of his season-high six set in a scoreless draw at Goucher on Sept. 7.
The Green Terror will face their second nationally-ranked opponent in the last three games on Saturday when they host a Centennial Conference contest versus No. 8 Dickinson. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear green as the team recognizes mental health awareness as part of Student-Athlete Mental Health Week.
