BALTIMORE, Md. - Johns Hopkins had 18 total blocks as the third-ranked Blue Jays posted a three-set victory over the McDaniel College volleyball team Wednesday, 25-18, 25-10, 25-12.
The Green Terror (10-10, 0-7 CC) were limited by 21 attack errors while Hopkins totaled 36 kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
Senior
Angalyn Strouse led the offense with five kills while senior
Katherine Taveras and freshman
Natalia Johnson each added six digs. Sophomore
Abigayle Bowley had three kills and two block assists while junior
Samantha Fadel had five digs.
The Blue Jays (23-2, 7-0 CC) scored the first four points of the first set and led 6-1 before six-straight points put them in front, 13-4. McDaniel would pull within six points on eight different occasions, but that would be as close as it could get as Hopkins sealed the win on a blocking error.
In a carbon copy of the first set, the Blue Jays led 4-0 and 6-1 in the second, before an 8-0 run gave them a 14-2 advantage. Strouse totaled four of her five kills in the second set, but after falling behind by 12, the Green Terror could get not closer than 11 as they had a match-high nine attack errors.
Hopkins jumped out to third consecutive 6-1 lead in the third set before a 7-0 run blew open a five-point lead into a 16-4 advantage. McDaniel tried to capitalize on five Blue Jay attack errors, but Hopkins scored the final three points, the last one on an attack error by the visitors, to seal the set and the match.
The Green Terror travel to Haverford on Saturday for their final road match before concluding the 2024 season with back-to-back home matches. First serve on Saturday is at 1 p.m.
