Fast Start Carries Franklin & Marshall Past Field Hockey

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Franklin & Marshall scored two goals in the first eight minutes en route to a 4-0 victory over the McDaniel College field hockey team Wednesday night at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (3-13, 0-9 CC) posted their highest shot total in the last four games and totaled 10 penalty corners, also their most in the last four games.

Led by one goal and one assist by Hannah Fitzgerald, the Diplomats scored two goals on six shots in the first quarter. She assisted Caitlin Hoover on the game's first goal less than five minutes in before adding a goal of her own just 3:07 later to double the visitors' margin.

Prior to Fitzgerald's goal, senior Morgan Collins added her third defensive save of the season, but the rebound went right to Fitzgerald who sent it in for her sixth goal of the year.

Led by two saves from freshman Teaghen Rieder and a defensive save by senior Amy Richenderfer, her fifth of the season, tying her for the Centennial Conference lead with classmate, Tori McArthur.

As a team, McDaniel leads the Centennial Conference and ranks 14th in Division III in defensive saves. The team now has 16 this season.

Franklin & Marshall (9-7, 6-3 CC) added two more goals in the third quarter, including Hoover's second and one on a penalty stroke.

Reider added three more saves in the third and two in the fourth to finish with seven.

In addition to her third defensive save of the season, Collins led the team with three shots, all of which were on goal. Freshman Charley Noah also had three shots.

McDaniel will conclude the 2024 season at home on Saturday when it hosts No. 11 Bryn Mawr on Homecoming. Game time is at 6 p.m. following the football game against Ursinus.
