Comstock Leads Volleyball in Home Match Versus Gettysburg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Freshman Kaylee Comstock totaled 17 assists and nine digs as the McDaniel College volleyball team dropped a Centennial Conference contest to Gettysburg on Wednesday inside the Gill Center.

The match marked the first at home for the Green Terror (10-8, 0-5 CC) in 22 days following a five-match road trip. Prior to the match, the team honored senior Katherine Taveras for totaling her 1,000th career dig at Dickinson on Oct. 16, becoming the 13th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Graduate student Nia Roberts led the team with seven kills while junior Kailey Young finished with six. Junior Samantha Fadel totaled three service aces and sophomore Reese Beck added two to go along with six digs.

The Bullets (17-4, 3-3 CC) started the evening strong, taking an early lead in the first set. After McDaniel cut the deficit to 9-6, Gettysburg rattled off 12-straight points to take command en route to a 25-8 victory.

The second set saw nine ties and eight lead changes. The Green Terror scored four of the first six points as the two teams traded blows for much of the contest. They grew their lead to four at 16-12 before a 6-0 run by the Bullets swung the momentum. Three consecutive points gave the lead back to the home team, but Gettysburg closed out on another late run to secure a five-point victory, 25-20.

McDaniel fell behind early in the third as Gettysburg opened on a 5-1 run. The Green Terror closed the gap to three before another 5-0 run gave the Bullets some breathing room. McDaniel stayed within striking distance, trailing 17-13, but an 8-0 run by the Bullets sealed the set and the match for the visitors.

The Green Terror continue their home stand on Saturday when they welcome Centennial Conference foe Muhlenberg for a match beginning at 1 p.m.
