GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The McDaniel College men's cross country team placed four runners in the top-50 at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational hosted by Gettysburg Saturday.
The average time for the five Green Terror runners who composed the team score was 26:47.2, breaking a 41-year-old program record for best average. The team beat the previous record of 26:53.0 set in 1983.
McDaniel, who finished fourth out of 20 teams with 175 points, was the highest placing Centennial Conference team, defeating the host Bullets and Franklin & Marshall
Junior Jack Sears was the top finisher for the Green Terror, placing 13th out 226 runners with a time of 25:57.9. It is the eighth-best performance in program history and the second-fastest on the Gettysburg course. Sears was also the top individual finisher from the Centennial Conference.
Junior Sebby Breton finished 18th with a time of 26:15.6 which is the the seventh-best time in program history and second-fastest on the course.
Graduate student Nick Raumann posted a time of 26:41.2 to place 37th and rank 16th in program history and sixth on this course. Graduate student Tyler Richardson placed 48th with a time of 26:56.1, the ninth-fastest time on the course in program history.
Sears, Breton, Raumann and Richardson each finished under 27 minutes, the first time in program history four runners ran below 27 minutes.
Freshman Amadeus Davis ran a time of 28:07.7 to place 108th to round out the scorers. Combined with the four above, they bested the previous program best average time of 26:53.0 set by Brian Russo, Doug Nolder, Jim Startt, Rich Harfst, and Tim McLaughlin in 1983.
Senior Sean Irwin finished with a time of 29:18.2 and junior Ethan Bush had a time of 30:25.3. Senior Joc Baldacci crossed the line in 30:26.8, sophomore Zac Kane ran a time of 32:08.7 and junior Simon Greenberg had a time of 37:25.9.
The race marked the final tune-up before the 2024 Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships which will be hosted by Dickinson on Saturday, November 2 at Big Spring High School.
