Lewis Scores First Goal as Men's Soccer Ties Haverford, 1-1

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Nick Lewis scored his first career goal as the McDaniel College men's soccer team battled Haverford to a 1-1 tie at the Soccer Complex Saturday.

The Green Terror (7-5-2, 2-3-1 CC), who are unbeaten in three of their last four games, maintained their hold on the sixth and final spot in the 2024 Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Championship with three games remaining. The team is tied with Swarthmore with seven points. The two teams meet in Westminster next Saturday.

McDaniel held a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half and a 4-0 margin in corner kicks. However, it wasn't until the team's eighth shot of the period until it was able to break through. Lewis recorded his first goal in 53 career games off an assist from senior Brandon Morse as he scored off a rebound in the box after Morse's shot was saved by Jackson Simon in the 36th minute.

Lewis entered the game with three assists in his previous 52 contests.

The Green Terror had three corner kicks and two shots in the first five minutes of the second half, but the Fords (2-8-5, 0-4-2 CC) were able to get the equalizer on their third shot of the half. Juan Rivera netted his second goal of the season off an assist from Aidan Lacy on a blast into the bottom right corner from about 21 yards out in the 55th minute.

Haverford totaled 13 of its 18 shots in the second half, but sophomore Tate Roth was able to limit their opportunities as he made six of his career-high nine saves in the final 45 minutes.

The 18 shots faced were a season-high by Roth, equaling the mark set by No. 8 Dickinson on Oct. 12. He now has a goals-against average of 0.62 and a save percentage of .860 this season.

McDaniel travels to Gettysburg on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest with the Bullets who are two points behind the Green Terror in the conference standings.
