CARLISLE, Pa. - Senior libero
Katherine Taveras recorded her 1,000th career dig early in the third set as the McDaniel College volleyball team dropped a Centennial Conference road match at Dickinson Wednesday.
Taveras became the 13th player in Green Terror (9-6, 0-4 CC) history to total 1,000 digs mark. She is the first player to join the 1,000-dig club since Taylor Bauman in 2017. Bauman holds the program record after totaling 1,975 digs from 2015-18.
Taveras totaled a team-high 15 digs on the night while junior
Kailey Young led the team with 13 kills. Graduate student
Nia Roberts had seven kills and senior
Angalyn Strouse added six. Freshman
Kaylee Comstock tallied 28 assists and added to her Centennial Conference-leading total with three service aces.
A 5-0 run early in the first set gave McDaniel a three-point lead before the Red Devils (12-7, 2-3 CC) rattled off a 9-0 run to take a 22-16 advantage. The Green Terror drew to within one before Dickinson scored the final two points to win 25-22.
Set two was a back-and-forth affair with eight ties and five lead changes. After taking a 20-19 lead, McDaniel wound up on the wrong end of a 6-1 run and would fall by two, 25-23.
McDaniel opened up the third set on a 4-0 run and built its lead to 10-4, but Dickinson fought back to tie the contest at 19-19. With the set tied at 21-21, the Red Devils scored the final four points to secure a 25-21 victory and the match in three sets.
The Green Terror step out of conference play on Saturday when they travel to Washington, D.C. for a tri-match against host Gallaudet and Penn College beginning at 11 a.m.
