COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The McDaniel College volleyball team won the opening set, but dropped the final three in a Centennial Conference match at Ursinus Friday night.
The Green Terror (9-5, 0-3 CC) were led by graduate student
Nia Roberts who collected a team-high 10 kills to go along with a .450 hitting percentage. Junior
Kailey Young finished with eight kills on 22 attempts while senior
Allyson Burgee led the team with four block assists, contributing to eight total blocks on the night.
Freshman
Kaylee Comstock dished out 15 assists and added two service aces. She currently leads the Centennial Conference with 44 aces and 0.92 aces per set. Senior
Katherine Taveras and junior
Samantha Fadel totaled 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Taveras needs just 11 more digs to reach 1,000 for her career.
McDaniel erased a 9-3 deficit in the first set thanks to a 9-1 run midway through the set to take a 20-17 lead. The Green Terror then scored the final five points to win 25-19.
A back-and-forth start in set two gave way to an 11-2 outburst by the Bears (10-8, 1-3 CC). McDaniel scored the next six points to draw within four, but Ursinus pulled away late to take the second set, 25-20.
The Bears led most of the way in set three, opening on a 7-1 run and growing the lead to as many as 14 en route to a 25-12 victory.
Both teams battled in the fourth set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes, but Ursinus closed on an 8-1 run to win the match in four with a 25-16 decision.
McDaniel wraps up a three-match road Centennial Conference road trip on Wednesday at Dickinson. First serve is at 7 p.m.
