WESTMINSTER, Md. - A second-half effort that was highlighted by 16 points from senior
Chuck Contee and 18 free throws carried the McDaniel College men's basketball team to a 58-45 victory over Dickinson Wednesday inside the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (8-12, 3-10 CC) posted their first home win against the Red Devils since Nov. 24, 2015, snapping a six-game losing streak.
Contee scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, accounting for six of the team's eight field goals as he went 6-for-9 from the floor. He was also 3-for-3 from the free throw line where McDaniel made 18-of-20 attempts as a team. Seven players made at least two, including junior
Lorin Hall who was 4-for-5.
The game featured seven ties, the last of which came at 24-24 with 14:56 remaining in the second half. Led by five-straight points from Contee, the Green Terror used a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the game to that point.
After Dickinson (8-12, 5-8 CC) cut its deficit to three, McDaniel responded with 15 of the next 22 points to extend its lead to 11 with 2:38 to play.
From there, the Green Terror scored its final 12 points from the free throw line, going a perfect 12-for-12 to secure its lead. Six different players had two made free throws each. Meanwhile, Dickinson went 5-for-5 as the two teams combined to make the last 17 free throws over the final 2:31.
Hall finished the game with seven points, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore
David Kearney totaled eight points, seven rebounds and three steals while senior
Joey Reiling tied his season high with eight points.
Graduate student
Brendan Kade had seven points, four rebounds and two assists as McDaniel's starters accounted for 47 points, outscoring Dickinson by one.
The Green Terror travel to Swarthmore on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip-off against the Garnet.
