WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's basketball team battled first-place Franklin & Marshall for 50 minutes before falling in double overtime Saturday inside the Gill Center, 75-69.
It was the first multiple overtime game for the Green Terror (7-12, 2-10 CC)Â in 11 years, since a 95-87 triple overtime victory against Washington College at home on Jan. 26, 2013.
Senior
Chuck Contee scored a team-high 19 points while junior
Lorin Hall totaled 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore
David Kearney had 13 points and eight rebounds.
McDaniel held the lead for over 36 minutes on Saturday, leading by as many as 12 points midway through the first half. Trailing 4-3 just two minutes into the game, the team used a 19-6 run to take 22-10 advantage with 10:12 remaining.
The Diplomats (16-3, 11-1 CC) would not lead again until the 4:44 mark of the first overtime following a layup by Josh Parra. They missed the last shot at the end of regulation and at the end of the first overtime before scoring the first seven points of the second overtime to take their largest lead of the game.
McDaniel went 3-for-8 from the floor in the second overtime while Franklin & Marshall shot 50-percent and was 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
Graduate student
Carter Truby finished with six points, 10 rebounds and three assists. His 10 rebounds were one shy of his career high set at Bryn Athyn on Dec. 13, 2022.
Led by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Parra, the Diplomats scored 46 points in the paint and were 15-of-28 from the free throw line.
The Green Terror return to action Wednesday when they host Dickinson at 8 p.m.
