McConnaha, Mathias Lead McDaniel at No. 10 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. - McDaniel College women's basketball freshmen Teya McConnaha and Ally Mathias combined for 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-31 loss to No. 10 Johns Hopkins Thursday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

The Green Terror (10-8, 5-8 CC) shot just 25.0 percent and committed a season-high 28 turnovers as they were held to their lowest point total since a 55-26 loss at Haverford on Jan. 13, 2011.

McDaniel also went 0-for-2 from the free throw line, the first time the team did not make a free throw since Feb. 26, 2013 in a 43-41 loss at Gettysburg.

McConnaha led the team with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Mathias added 10 points and five rebounds.

The first quarter was back-and-forth, featuring three ties and five lead changes. McConnaha scored seven of the team's 11 points as the Green Terror trailed 13-11 after one.

Following a three-pointer by Mathias, McDaniel trailed by one, 15-14 with 8:51 left in the second. However, the Blue Jays finished the quarter on an 18-4 run as they forced eight turnovers and went 8-for-16 from the floor to take a 33-18 halftime lead.

Hopkins (17-1, 13-0 CC) stretched its lead to 21 in the third before outscoring the visitors 13-2 in the fourth as the Green Terror went 1-for-16 from the floor.

Junior Lil Overcash was held scoreless for the first time this season, but managed to dish out five assists, one shy of season high. She also added three rebounds.

Greta Miller totaled seven points, eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals for the Blue Jays who scored 31 points off turnovers.

McDaniel returns home for the first time in the last four games on Saturday when it hosts Bryn Mawr beginning at 2 p.m. The Green Terror posted a 72-34 win against the Owls on Jan. 6.
