CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Leading by one late in the third quarter, Washington College outscored the McDaniel College women's basketball team 17-9 in the fourth to stretch its lead to 13 en route to a 52-41 victory Tuesday night at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.
The Green Terror (10-7, 5-7 CC) were just 3-of-16 from the floor in the fourth quarter and 1-of-6 from the three-point line in the fourth. The Shorewomen scored nine of their 17 points at the free throw line where they made 9-of-13 attempts.
Sophomore
Elaina Beckett had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals while freshman
Raegan Lenz had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and a career-high four blocks. Freshman
Teya McConnaha grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
McDaniel trailed 24-14 at halftime after a slow start saw them make just 5-of-29 first-half attempts. Washington scored 17 second-chance points as it held a 33-16 margin in rebounding with 17 coming on the offensive end.
The Green Terror mounted a comeback in the third, pulling within one, 33-32, on a jumper by sophomore
Lily Hines with 11 seconds remaining. However, a layup at the buzzer gave the Shorewomen a three-point lead after three as they scored 19 of the game's final 28 points.
Washington (8-8, 5-6 CC) finished the game with 19 second-chance points and a 54-36 advantage in rebounds. The team also shot 31 free throw attempts, making 19.
McDaniel wraps up its three-game road trip on Thursday when it makes the short trip to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins. Tip-off from Goldfarb Gymnasium is at 6 p.m.
