WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore
Christian Taylor scored a career-high 19 points as the McDaniel College men's basketball team posted a 76-42 non-conference victory over Christendom Monday night inside the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (7-10) snapped a three-game losing streak overall and a three-game skid at home as they held the Crusaders to just 31.9 percent shooting while forcing 17 turnovers.
Taylor also led the team with three assists and was one of 13 players who scored for McDaniel, going 7-for-9 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. He was the lone player in double figures as sophomore
Jonas Sujeta totaled nine points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The Green Terror made 10 three-pointers, one shy of their season high, while totaling 28 points in the paint and 23 off turnovers. They also out-rebounded the Crusaders, 43-24, which led to 20 second-chance points.
McDaniel scored the game's first seven points before Christendom (8-5) scored six of the next eight to pull within three. However, led by 10 points from Taylor, the Green Terror embarked on a 22-2 run to take a 23-point lead, 31-8 with 4:39 left in the first half.
During the run, McDaniel went 8-for-12 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point range and limited the visitors to just 1-of-7 shooting while forcing four turnovers.
Led by 10 points from Taylor, eight different players scored in the opening 20 minutes for the Green Terror who led 39-15 at halftime.
McDaniel led by as many as 41 points in the second half and all 18 players saw action, including freshman
Pete Hagen who made his collegiate debut as the team scored 43 points off the bench. Freshman
Ryan Shaffer also scored his first career points on a layup in the final minute.
Meanwhile, senior
Joey Reiling made his first career start in 53 games, totaling six points, a game and career-high eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.
McDaniel returns to action on Thursday when it makes the short trip to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins. Tip-off from Goldfarb Gymnasium is at 8 p.m.
