Fast Start Carries Gettysburg Past Men's Basketball

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Gettysburg scored 18 of the game's first 22 points and never trailed en route to a 76-54 victory over the McDaniel College men's basketball team Wednesday night inside the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (6-9, 2-7 CC) trailed 40-25 at halftime after the Bullets shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. Gettysburg also held a 22-13 advantage in rebounds and limited McDaniel to 8-for-24 shooting.

Gettysburg made eight of its first 10 attempts from the floor with two three-pointers to take an 18-4 lead with 13:32 remaining in the first half. Meanwhile, the Green Terror missed six of their first seven attempts.

After McDaniel cut its deficit to nine with 9:21 to play, the Bullets stretched it lead to 17 before taking a 40-25 halftime lead. Carl Schaller and Jordan Stafford combined for 25 of the visitors' 40 first-half points with Schaller scoring 15 and Stafford adding 10.

Gettysburg (12-4, 8-1 CC) pushed its lead to as many as 25 in the second half, scoring 16 of its 36 second-half points in the paint.

Sophomore Jonas Sujeta led the Green Terror with 12 points, seven of which came at the free throw line where he was 7-of-8. Senior Christian Taylor added 10 points and three rebounds while graduate student Brendan Kade had eight points and four rebounds.

Sophomore David Kearney led the team with six rebounds.

McDaniel travels to Ursinus on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off against the Bears.
