McConnaha Ties Career-High in 66-60 Loss to Muhlenberg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College women's basketball freshman Teya McConnaha tied her career high with 17 points, but Muhlenberg scored the game's final points in a 66-60 victory Saturday on Rebecca L. Martin Court.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Green Terror (10-4, 5-4 CC) at home against the Mules. Prior to Saturday, the last win for Muhlenberg in Westminster was exactly six years ago on Jan. 13, 2018.

McDaniel trailed by four before freshman Ally Mathias hit her second three-pointer of the season to pull the team within one, 61-60 with 2:22 remaining. However, the Mules answered with a jumper 18 seconds later before going 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 16 seconds to seal the win.

Muhlenberg (9-6, 4-6 CC) led by as many as 10 at the start of the fourth quarter before the Green Terror used a 12-3 run to pull within one, 58-57 with 2:39 to play.

McConnaha tied her career high set earlier this season in a 68-64 victory versus York (Pa.) on Nov. 15. She also added eight rebounds. Junior Lil Overcash finished with 16 points and three assists while sophomore Elaina Beckett totaled 13 points and eight rebounds. Overcash finished one point shy of her career high set in a 62-58 win against Ursinus on Dec. 2.

McConnaha, Overcash, Beckett and freshman Raegan Lenz accounted for 53 of the team's 60 points.

Led by 12 points from McConnaha and 11 from Overcash, McDaniel led 32-29 at halftime before stretching it to as many as seven, 38-31 with 8:07 left in the third quarter. A 10-1 run by the Mules gave them the lead for good, 41-39.

Muhlenberg outscored the hosts 37-28 in the second half, scoring 11 off turnovers and 10 from the free throw line where they were 10-of-16. Emily Unger also scored 14 of her team-high 16 points.

McDaniel concludes its two-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when it welcomes Gettysburg to Rebecca L. Martin Court for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
