Defense Carries McDaniel to Tenth Win of the Season, 53-39

LANCASTER, Pa. - Strong defense led the McDaniel College women's basketball team to its 10th win of the season Thursday night, 53-39 on the road against Franklin & Marshall at the Mayser Center.

The Green Terror (10-3, 5-3 CC) picked up their 10th win in 13 games and extended their conference road winning streak to three. They also won their third-straight against the Diplomats and posted their first road win in the series since Dec. 9, 2017.

Junior Lil Overcash led the way with a game-high 13 points, her ninth game in double figures this season. Freshman Teya McConnaha totaled 12 points and six rebounds while classmate Raegan Lenz had eight points and four rebounds.

Sophomore Elaina Beckett had a game-high eight rebounds to go along with five points and three assists. Junior Peyton Tague dished out five assists.

Defensively, McDaniel held Franklin & Marshall to single digits in the first three quarters while limiting the home team to just 13-of-49 shooting for 26.5 percent. The visitors out-rebounded the Diplomats, 37-25, with 28 coming on the defensive end.

Thursday marked the second time in the last three games that the Green Terror held a conference opponent under 40 points on the road.

McDaniel led 15-6 following the first quarter after scoring 11 points off six Franklin & Marshall turnovers. The team stretched its lead to 27-14 at halftime, holding the Diplomats scoreless for the final four minutes of the second.

Franklin & Marshall (7-6, 2-6 CC) was just 6-of-26 from the floor in the first half for 23.1 percent, including 0-for-6 from three-point range.

The Green Terror led by as many as 22 points in the fourth. McConnaha scored 10 of her 12 in the second half while Lenz added seven.

McDaniel plays its third conference game in five days on Saturday when it welcomes Muhlenberg to Rebecca L. Martin Court for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
