Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Two Early Goals Push Men's Soccer Past Marywood, 3-0

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's soccer team scored two goals early and shut down the Marywood offense en route to its second win of the season, 3-0 at the Soccer Complex.

The Green Terror (2-0-1) have yet to allow a goal in three games this season, extending their scoreless streak to 270 minutes.

From the first whistle, McDaniel put the pressure on the Pacers. The team pressed their advantage and kept possession in the Marywood half of the field. In the 14th minute, sophomore AJ Nordone created space just outside the box and attacked towards the center of the field. Sophomore Carver Neary found an opening in the defense and posted up for a pass, turning and ripping a shot past the keeper towards the far post for his first goal of the season.

In the 21st minute, Marywood (2-1-0) took its first shot, but it sailed wide. Of the 11 shots taken by the Pacers, only one was on target and that was easily stopped by graduate student Austin Heid. A few minutes later, sophomore Jorge Herrera had possession deep in the box where his shot was deflected out towards the edge of the 18-yard line. Junior Brandon Morse came streaking in and blasted one towards the upper corner to put the Green Terror up by two.

With a two-goal lead coming out of the locker room, both teams battled for possession near the midfield stripe. In a chippy second half, Marywood racked up three cards, including one on the bench. McDaniel's defense kept the Pacers in check with very little opportunity to create plays.

WIth time expiring, Heid booted the ball past the midfield line where freshman Parks Tolton controlled it off the bounce and attacked the Pacers defense. The goalie came out to defend, but was unable to close the gap quick enough allowing Tolton to chip a shot over his head for his first collegiate goal after his free kick goal was called back against Penn College on Sunday.

McDaniel returns to action on Saturday at Eastern Mennonite. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
