ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - McDaniel traveled to Elizabethtown for a non-conference matchup against the Blue Jays. The Green Terror scored early in the second half to pick up their third road win of the season.
With the win, McDaniel moves to 5-2-2 overall on the season with a fifth-place ranking in the latest United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings.
The Green Terror pressured the Blue Jays all night, with 18 total shots and forcing the Elizabethtown keeper to make 10 saves. McDaniel's defense pitched their sixth shutout of the season and allowed just five shots throughout the match.
As the match began, McDaniel had three early chances. Freshman
Mackenzie Clement took a shot in the fourth minute that was saved by the Blue Jays keeper. In the eighth minute,
Elaina Kluttz put a shot off the crossbar, then
Abby Witzel connected on a low drive towards the left corner of the frame, but it was saved again by the Elizabethtown goalie Adrienne McGallicher. In total she faced 11 shots.
McDaniel's defense locked up the Blue Jays offense. Only one off-target shot was attempted in the first half by Elizabethtown.
Fellow freshman
Sidda Mitchell and
Peyton Viggiano each had opportunities during a 10-minute stretch in the first half, but were unable to convert. The match remained scoreless heading into the halftime break.
To open the second half, Elizabethtown picked up an early yellow card. Moments later midfielder
Liz LeChard ripped a shot from towards the net that was saved by McGallicher. McDaniel kept up the attack and pushed forward into Blue Jays territory.
In the 65th minute,
Allison Storm dribbled down the side of the field creating space before her service into the box, the perfectly placed pass found
Jessica Weinoldt who headed towards the back post to break the deadlock.
Weinoldt has now scored in back-to-back games.
The Blue Jays tried to counter with a pair of late scoring opportunities. In the 73rd minute, Maddie McWhinney attempted a shot, but McDaniel keeper
Lauren Hoolahan reached up and made the save.
Hoolahan stopped another shot three minutes later to keep the clean sheet. McDaniel closed out the game for their third road win of the season.
McDaniel returns home against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 12 p.m.
