LEXINGTON, Ky. - McDaniel College men's golf junior
Hogan Schulze tied the program record with an 8-under par 64 in the second round of the Transylvania Fall Invitational Saturday on the Big Blue course at the University Club of Kentucky.
The Green Terror, who were receiving votes in Friday's Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Preseason Coaches Poll, lead the 18-team field after totaling a 36-hole program record, 572. No. 18 Greensboro is in second, two strokes behind, while Centre and Transylvania, who also receiving votes, are tied for third with a 576.
McDaniel's 572 surpasses the previous 36-hole record of 574 set at the Ted Kinder Memorial Sept. 13-14, 2021. The mark included a 282 in the second-round which is the second-lowest 18-hole score in team history.
Individually, Schulze tied the program and Centennial Conference record set by
Ryan McGarry in the Dickinson Fall Invitational at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course on Sept. 18, 2021. Schulze's mark of 8-under is also a program record, bettering the 6-under 66 carded by sophomore
Charlie Dolan on the same course and same event a year ago.
Schulze is in second place with a 136, one stroke off McGarry's 36-hole school record set at the Ted Kinder Memorial in 2021. Harrison Akers from Centre currently sits in first with a 135 after first-round 68 and second-round 67.
Meanwhile, Dolan sets in a four-way tie for 10th after carding a 142 over the first two rounds, including an opening-round, three-under par 69.
Junior
Matt Messenger carded a 146 through 36 holes with a three-under par 69 in the second round while junior
Dell Grieser and sophomore
Ethan Crabb each carded a 151.
