Bowley's Eight Blocks Lead McDaniel Past Lancaster Bible

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel looked to get back on track against Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday night. After taking the first two sets, the Chargers battled back to push it to five sets. The Green Terror rallied and claimed the fifth set to win the match and pick up their eighth win of the season.

Lancaster Bible opened up the first set with an 8-4 lead. Freshman Abigayle Bowley picked up one of her team leading eight blocks to end the Chargers run, then fellow freshman Hannah Waters connected with a leaping Kailey Young who spiked it down to cut into the Lancaster lead. Back-to-back kills from Kenzie Mitchell kept McDaniel within striking distance. Nia Roberts picked up a kill to tie the game at 23-all. Junior Kathy Taveras went back to serve and converted for an ace to take the lead. After tying the game back up at 25, Tatiana Hamilton picked up an ace then assisted a Young kill to take the first set 27-25.

The Chargers built a similar lead late in the second set, but McDaniel, trailing 20-15, rattled off six straight points including a pair of kills from Waters to retake the lead 21-20. Allyson Burgee went back and served up two aces, then Hamilton connected with Mitchell to close out the second set 25-22.

In the third and fourth set, Lancaster Bible started off hot and took the early lead in both, but this time did not give up the lead. They pulled away for the 25-21 win in the third set. McDaniel made a late push in the fourth with a kill from Waters to pull within two. A pair of service errors by the Chargers closed the gap to 22-21, but they regrouped and won the set 25-21, forcing a deciding fifth set.

In the deciding set, freshman Reese Beck connected on back-to-back aces after a kill from Mitchell to retake the lead. Leading 5-3, Samantha Fadel recorded an ace, then Kailey Young slammed home one of her seven kills to grow the Green Terror lead. Leading 9-7, McDaniel rattled off six straight points including a match ending ace from Strouse to win 15-7.

McDaniel returns to action on Friday night as they travel to Valley Forge. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
