Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Neary Scores Late Equalizer Against Bridgewater (VA)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - McDaniel College men's soccer sophomore Carver Neary scored the tying goal with 10 minutes remaining as the team battled Bridgewater (VA) to a 1-1 tie on Sunday at Jopson Field.

The Green Terror (2-0-3) surrendered their first goal in five games this season, but extended their unbeaten streak to five, equaling last year's 5-0 start.

As the first half began, the Eagles put the pressure on McDaniel with four shots in the first ten minutes. Graduate student keeper Austin Heid showed up with three saves early on. The Green Terror created their first opportunity in the 12th minute when junior Matt Bowes ripped a shot to the far post, but it was saved by Eagles keeper Charles Schweinefuss.

Freshman AJ Reta had an opportunity in the 20th minute, but that was also saved by the Bridgewater keeper.

In the 42nd minute, Bridgewater (4-0-1) got on the board with a goal from Lestath Savage and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The marker was the first allowed by McDaniel this season, snapping a scoreless streak of 401:53.

Coming out of the break, the Eagles kept up the pressure with two shots that went just wide of frame. In the 53rd minute, freshman Parks Tolton created space and ripped a shot that was just off target.

For the next 20 minutes, both teams battled for possession near the midfield stripe. McDaniel had seven shots in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net.

In the 80th minute, Tolton had another opportunity, but the Eagles keeper made another nice save to keep Bridgewater in front by one. As the clock ticked under 10 minutes to play, the Green Terror pushed forward and kept possession in the Eagles half of the field and in the 80th minute, Tolton found Neary who ripped a shot inside the left post to tie the game at 1-1.

Bridgewater had an opportunity in the 85th, but Heid made a crucial save to preserve the draw.

McDaniel returns to action Saturday at home against Ursinus to open Centennial Conference play. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
