LeChard Nets Game-Winner in Season Opener Against Kean

GALLOWAY, N.J. - The McDaniel College women's soccer team opened its season with a trip to New Jersey for the Stockton Classic, posting a 1-0 neutral site victory over Kean on Friday at G. Larry James Stadium.

The Green Terror (1-0-0) started fast with a pair of shots in the first seven minutes. In the eighth minute, Sonya Brewer took one of the Cougars' three shots, but junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoolahan was in perfect position to make the save. Five minutes later, Brewer sent another shot wide.

The disciplined McDaniel defense led by graduate student Kiersten Crowley held the Cougars without a shot for the remaining 33 minutes of the opening period.

In the 18th minute, junior defender Olivia Moskunas set up for a throw-in. She launched the ball towards the top of the box where junior midfielder Liz LeChard controlled it, turned with a defender on her back, and ripped a shot with her left foot into the back of the net. The Green Terror went into the locker room with a one-goal lead.

In the second half, McDaniel continued to pressure the Cougars. In the 63rd minute, Kean forward Georgia Boberg sent a shot on frame, but Hoolahan was there again to make the save.

In the 75th minute, LeChard had another chance with a shot that was saved by Cougar goalie Abigail Wing. Senior forward Elena Hincapie ripped a shot less than a minute later that was also saved by Wing.

McDaniel takes on host Stockton on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Ospreys posted a 1-0 victory over Methodist in the first game on Friday.
