WESTMINSTER, Md. - In a low scoring affair, McDaniel took the lead early and stayed ahead through seven innings, but Dickinson rallied in the bottom of the eighth to get the 4-3 win.
Tyson Nercessian took the mound for his sixth start of the season. He held the Red Devils scoreless through five innings and racked up six strikeouts for McDaniel (14-9, 2-2 CC). Dickinson (15-8-1, 3-1 CC) kept the game close with Grayson Walker on the mound through the first five innings.Â
After back-to-back strikeouts to close out the top of the first inning, the McDaniel offense struck first with an RBI single from
Jake Smith scoring
Joey Hubinger.
Nercessian racked up two more strikeouts in the second inning.Â
In the bottom of the third inning,
Tyler Yohn singled, then advanced to second on a passed ball.
Jake Smith came up to bat and delivered again with a single up the middle, scoring
Yohn.
Nercessian got into a little bit of trouble in the fourth with two runners on, and one out. He regrouped and struck out the next two batters to keep the shutout alive.Â
Dickinson put two more runners on in the top of the sixth. The Red Devils got on the board with a double to left field scoring Ryan Thompson. With two outs and runners on Ethan Sodl was up next and ripped a ball towards short.
Yohn made a play on the ball, and made a quick decision throwing it home to get the lead runner with a nice tag from freshman catcher
Robert Weer.Â
The Green Terror responded with two outs in the bottom half of the inning.
Santino DeFilippo singed through the infield, then advanced to second when
Weer drew a walk.
Hubinger came up to bat next and battled during an 11-pitch at-bat finally connecting on a double down the right field line.
DeFilippo scored to put McDaniel back up by one.
Leading by one in the eighth inning, Dickinson scored a pair of runs to go back in front. McDaniel had their best chance of scoring in the bottom half of the inning, but failed to do so with runners in position. The Red Devils held on to win 4-3.
McDaniel returns to action on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall. The first game of the double header begins at 12 p.m.
