HAMPSTEAD, Md. - The McDaniel Men's Golf Team played close to home at Piney Branch Golf Club. The one-day Stevenson Invitational featured to fourth place finishes for McDaniel.
Sean Kelly and
Matt Messenger both shot a 73 (+2) and
Evan Rutherford recorded a 79 (+8).
Freshman
Sean Kelly began the day with back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. After a bogey on the fifth hole,
Kelly remained steady until carding a birdie on the par three ninth hole. On the back nine,
Kelly recorded a 39 to finish tied for fourth place with a 73.
Matt Messenger birdied the first two holes as well. The sophomore from Raleigh, N.C. added two more birdies, and tallied a 73 to finish in fourth place with
Kelly.
Junior
Evan Rutherford recorded one of his two birdies on hole two. He finished the front nine with a score of 40. On the back nine, he continued his steady play, then on the final hole he birdied the 400yd par 4 to finish with a 79 to finish tied for 11th.
Ryan Niederpruem and
Ben Diskin also competed for McDaniel.Â
Niederpruem started slow but carded two birdies on the back nine to finish with an 80 (+9).
Diskin birdied number 12, and parred the final three holes to finish tied for 20th with an 83 (+12).
McDaniel returns to action this weekend at Penn National Golf Course for the Gettysburg Spring Shootout. McDaniel will tee off at 12:05 p.m.
