PITTSBURGH, Pa. - McDaniel College men's lacrosse senior
Nick DeLoriers scored a season-high seven points as the Green Terror won their fifth-straight game with a 14-7 road win over Chatham Wednesday at UPMC Graham Field.
McDaniel (5-1) has won five in-a-row for the first time a 10-4 win at Swarthmore on April 28, 2012.
The Green Terror are also off to their best start to a season since 2009 when they also won five of their first six games en route to a 10-6 record and appearance in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship.
With the score tied for the fourth time at 4-4 with 6:14 remaining in the second quarter, McDaniel scored the game's next seven goals to take a seven-goal lead after three, 11-4. DeLoriers had a hand in three of the seven tallied with a goal and two assists while junior
AJ Johnson scored twice, including a man-up tally to start the run.
Junior
Nick Wingo also had two points, scoring off an assist from DeLoriers with 39 seconds left in the second quarter to give McDaniel a 7-4 halftime lead.
The Green Terror outscored the Cougars 9-2 over the second and third quarters, outshooting the home team 25-10 while forcing 13 turnovers.
Sophomore
Jason Fritz continued his strong start to the season, finishing with two goals, two assists, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. He leads the team with 32 points on 16 goals and 16 assists, seven points ahead of DeLoriers in second. The duo have combined for 57 points in six games with 27 goals and 30 assists.
Reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, graduate student
Brighton Lorber, made 12 more saves on Wednesday to lead a defensive effort that held its opponent under 10 goals for the fifth-straight game. Senior
Jimmy Schmidt added two caused turnovers.
During the team's five-game win streak, McDaniel has outscored its opponents, 63-26.
The Green Terror return to action on Friday when they head to Huntingdon, Pa. to take on Juniata at 7 p.m.
