Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

McDaniel Beats Saint Vincent to Remain Unbeaten at Home

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's lacrosse team scored five of the game's final seven goals en route to a 9-6 victory over Saint Vincent Saturday at Gill Stadium.

With the win, the Green Terror (6-2) remained undefeated in four home games this season and matched their best eight-game start to a season since 2009 when the team also started with six wins in its first eight games.

Eight different players scored a goal for McDaniel while nine had at least one point. Sophomore Jason Fritz led the way with two goals while senior Nick DeLoriers had one goal and one assist.

With the game tied at 4-4 late in the second quarter, McDaniel took a one-goal lead following a tally by freshman Will Beacham with 2:13 remaining. It was his fifth goal of the season and gave the Green Terror a 5-4 halftime lead, one they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Senior Dylan Vitale scored just 35 seconds into the second half off an assist from DeLoriers before the Bearcats would answer to reduce their deficit to one.

However, senior John Lux netted his third goal of the season just 32 seconds later for what proved to be the game-winning tally before junior AJ Johnson scored with 4:50 left in the third to give McDaniel its largest lead of the game at 8-5.

The Green Terror would net their final tally with nine seconds to play, but Saint Vincent could not close the gap in between as the McDaniel defense forced seven turnovers and held the Bearcats to just one goal on 10 shots. Graduate student Brighton Lorber also had six saves.

Lorber finished with 13 saves, including eight in the second half while the Green Terror controlled possession, winning five of eight face-offs. Freshman Thomas Bunce won 8-of-14 face-offs in the game while picking up six ground balls.

In suffering its first loss of the season, Saint Vincent (7-1) was led by three goals from Matthew Cassidy and three points from Caleb Hawkins.

McDaniel has the week off before opening Centennial Conference play at Washington College next Saturday, March 25. Opening face-off is set for 4 p.m.
