MYRTLE BEACH, SC. - In the first ever matchup between Susquehanna and McDaniel the River Hawks held McDaniel to two hits on the night, and were able to score consistently throughout the game to beat the Green Terror 8-0.
Ryan Kelly started the game for the Green Terror (6-4). After giving up a single,
Kelly struck out the final two batters of the inning to keep the River Hawks (6-3) off the board in the first inning. Kelly finished with five strikeouts on the night. Susquehanna had Dillan Weikel on the mound, and he pitched seven innings, while giving up just two hits to McDaniel.Â
The River Hawks scored a pair of runs in the second inning, and then another two runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead on McDaniel. The Green Terror's best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the third inning.
Third basemen
Billy Wheatley walked to open the inning. With two outs on the board, freshman
Ben Davis ripped one down the first base line for a double, advancing
Wheatley to third.
Jake Smith was up next, and connected on a hard hit ball to third.
Smith who had been hit in the calf on his first at bat, took off for first but was thrown out by a half-second to end the inning.Â
Susquehanna added four more runs, and tallied 10 hits on the night. After
Kelly,
Matt Speakman pitched an inning for McDaniel followed by
Dylan Parsons who was on the mound for the final two innings.Â
McDaniel returns to action tomorrow night against Worcester State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM at Griffith Field.
