McDaniel Scores 11-Straight to Pull Away From Goucher

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Goucher jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team scored 11-straight to take command in a 14-4 non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (2-1) won their second consecutive at home and second in-a-row against the Gophers.

Sophomore Jason Fritz scored a career-high 10 points with four goals and a career-best six assists. His 10 points were the most by a McDaniel player since Kolyn Kirby had 12 with four goals and eight assists in a 20-6 victory versus Franklin & Marshall on April 26, 2006.

Meanwhile, Fritz's six assists were the most by a Green Terror since Gibbs Preston had six in a 10-6 win at Union on March 25, 2008.

Fritz had a hand in eight of the team's first 11 goals, tallying four goals and four assists as McDaniel led 11-2 following his fourth goal of the game with 6:42 remaining in the third quarter.

Junior Dom Calderoni, who finished with four goals for the Green Terror, one shy of his career high, added three goal during their 11-0 run. He scored twice off assists from Fritz, including the game's lone man-up goal with 12:23 left in the second quarter for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The duo connected for a third time with 3:42 to play in the third as they combined for eight goals and 14 points.

McDaniel out-shot the Gophers 44-19 and won 15-of-21 face-offs as freshman Thomas Bunce won 11-of-15. Senior Logan Feuer led the defense with three caused turnovers and two ground balls while sophomore Justin Long made a career-high three saves in his third career appearance in relief of graduate student Brighton Lorber.

Freshman Will Beacham netted the first goal of his career with 11:43 remaining in the second and was one of three Green Terror who scored their first goals of the season, including seniors Dylan Vitale and John Lux.

McDaniel concludes its three-game homestand on Saturday when it hosts Alvernia on Saturday in the team's game for the One Love Foundation. Face-off is at 3 p.m. following the women's game against Susquehanna at noon.

The game will raise awareness and benefit the One Love Foundation. Founder and mother of Yeardley Love, Sharon Love, received her master's degree in Deaf Education from McDaniel in 1976.
