CHESTERTOWN, Md. - McDaniel College women's basketball senior
Mallory Conroy scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Green Terror to a 64-48 road win over Washington College Tuesday at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.
The win was the second-straight for McDaniel (8-14, 6-11 CC) who held its opponent under 50 points for the ninth time this season.
Conroy posted her fourth career 20-point game and first this season, going 8-for-14 from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Her previous career high was 21 set against Haverford on Jan. 2, 2020.
The first quarter featured five ties and eight lead changes with neither team leading by more than two before two free throws by Conroy gave McDaniel an 18-14 lead after one. The free throws were part of a 13-0 run that saw the Green Terror take a 27-14 advantage with 6:31 remaining in the second.
Led by six-straight points from graduate student
Meggie Burgess, McDaniel stretched the lead to 16, 31-15.
The Shorewomen (12-10, 8-9 CC) used an 11-2 run to pull within seven before a three-pointer by sophomore
Liliana Overcash gave the visitors a 10-point halftime lead, 38-28.
Conroy scored the first six points of the second half for the Green Terror to push their lead to 15. They would lead by as many as 17 as they snapped their six-game road losing streak.
Conroy was one of four players to score in double figures for McDaniel, including graduate student
Julia Ryan who had a career-high 11. She was 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Freshman
Elaina Beckett totaled her ninth double double this season with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Burgess finished with 10 points and six rebounds in just 15 minutes. Senior
Josey Klingenberg totaled five points, seven assists and five steals.
McDaniel scored 21 points off 18 Shorewomen turnovers and made 18-of-20 attempts from the free throw line, including 10-of-12 in the fourth quarter.
The Green Terror look for their third-straight win on Thursday when they host Swarthmore on Rebecca L. Martin Court beginning at 7:30 p.m. Beckett scored 17 points in the first meeting between the two, including the game-winner as time expired in a 46-44 win on Jan. 4.
