ABERDEEN, Md. - The Red Hawks jumped out in front early against the Green Terror, and kept building their lead late into the game. Montclair State pulled away for the 25-3 win over McDaniel.
Freshman
James Cosgrove made his collegiate debut for McDaniel (2-1). He opened the game with a quick first inning, thanks to a spectacular play by second basemen
Joey Hubinger who scooped up a ground ball, stepped on second, and threw to first for the double play. The Red Hawks of Montclair State (1-0) were able to find a rhythm offensively by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the second inning.
The Green Terror offense was only able to muster one hit in the first four innings of play. Heading into the fifth, senior
Austin Goudeaux battled through a long at-bat and drew a walk. Freshman
Ben Davis stepped into the box with a single earlier in the game. He connected on a low pitch and sent it over the fence to put McDaniel on the board.
Davis now has two home runs in his first three collegiate games.Â
In the sixth inning, with
Tyler Yohn on third after a double by
Connor Uhrig,
Luke Kelly sent a fly ball deep into the outfield. The left fielder made the catch, but
Yohn was able to tag up and make it home for the third run of the game. McDaniel was unable to close the gap any further and fell to the Red Hawks in the first of a two-game set at the Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Md.Â
McDaniel returns to action on Friday against the Red Hawks. First pitch is scheduled for 12 P.M.
