GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Despite four players scoring in double-digits, the McDaniel College men's basketball team could not overcome Gettysburg's potent offense in an 81-70 road loss Wednesday at Bream Gymnasium.
The Green Terror (8-15, 4-13 CC) trailed by eight in the early going with sophomore
Russell Dandridge scoring twice in the post for the team's first two buckets. The Bullets then got back-to-back triples from Antonello Baggi to expand their lead to 10 with four minutes gone in the first half. Baggi led all scorers with 19 points.
Freshman
Christian Taylor beat his defender and finished at the rim to pull McDaniel within four before he got to the bucket for another layup with 9:08 left.
Juniors
Joey Reiling and
Jeong Hwang scored the next five for the Green Terror, but Baggi responded again with a deep three-pointer and a pair of free throws to keep the lead above 10.
With time winding down in the first half, freshman
Jonas Sujeta snagged an offensive rebound and drew the foul. He stepped to the line and sunk both free throws, but Baggi responded once again with another triple to close out the half with the Bullets in front, 41-32.
Gettysburg (14-10,11-6 CC) outscored McDaniel 16-14 in the first 10 minutes of the second half, adding a pair of three-pointers. Hwang,
who led the team with 13 points, connected on a triple himself and added a layup in transition to keep the Green Terror within striking distance.
Junior
Charles Contee, who scored nine points in the second half, setup outside the arc as Hwang penetrated and kicked to him for the deep three-pointer.
With seven minutes remaining, McDaniel pulled within 10 points. Contee
connected on a pull up jumper and Sujeta sunk one from behind the arc, but McDaniel could not get any closer and Gettysburg converted at the free throw line to stay ahead.
